100-day challenge: insect drawings

February 04, 20261 min read

Just for fun, and to keep myself doing art daily--even for just 5 minutes a day--I started a 100-day drawing challenge and chose insects as the topic.

For reference photos, I used the pictures I had taken and then uploaded to iNaturalist. Right now, I'm using only the ones that are "research grade," meaning that the IDs have been confirmed by at least one other person. But I might run out of IDed pictures and may need to use non-verified insects.

(There's no systematic IDing on iNaturalist. I have no idea how people stumble across your post to confirm your observation.)

I'll post about 7 drawings each week. If you want to see how I go about them, check out this short video I made:

Grylloidea, in the super family of; cricketPlatycryptus undatus; Tan Jumping SpiderChrysopiluis thoracicus; Golden-backed Snipe Fly

Ugh...this platform is terrible for image-heavy posts, so if anyone is actually reading this blog instead of my Wordpress one, I'd advice popping over there to see the rest of the photos.
