"Teresa Ho Robeson’s session on Writing a Graphic Novel for the First Time is thorough and packed with
great resources. Teresa teaches with high energy and contagious enthusiasm. After taking Teresa’s session,
I had all the information I needed to move from talking about writing a graphic novel “someday”
to completing my first GN manuscript within the next few months."
- Jamie Bills, kid lit author

WI SCBWI Conference - Engaging Stories ✨📚
I'll be the keynote speaker and teaching a Write a Graphic Novel for the First Time intensive at this upcoming, in-person conference!

The Engaging Stories Fall In-Person Conference will be October 8th - 10th. Engage with successful authors, illustrators, editors, and agents. Learn techniques to turn your stories into "can't wait to read" books, mingle with fellow authors and illustrators, and attend special one-on-one sessions to get feedback on your story. It will be an action-packed, informative, exciting conference with submission opportunities!

These are webinars I have taught that are now available for purchase:

A 90-minute webinar introducing the basics of writing graphic novels for the first time. Led by Teresa Robeson, author of two biographical graphic novels with Penguin Workshop, this session demonstrates that writers don't need to be illustrators to break into the graphic novel market—there are opportunities for author-only ideas. The webinar covers: a short history of graphic novels, different age categories with examples, the script format debate, cinematic forms, and detailed step-by-step guidance for creating a first script. All content includes examples from Teresa's own books and recent publications. The graphic novel format has become hugely popular in U.S. publishing (DOG MAN, SMILE, Babysitters Club graphic novelizations). Perfect for picture book writers or novelists branching into graphic novels, teachers/librarians/literacy specialists interested in writing graphic novels, and illustrators wanting to combine visual skills with written storytelling.

Unless your plan is "one and done," most writers are thinking of writing as a long-term career. But the publishing path is windy, bumpy, full of potholes and there is no definitive GPS or map to guide you. Navigating it is sometimes like driving on a foggy mountain road at night with your headlights out. The best that you can do is look at how others before you have made the journey and use that as a guide. Teresa Robeson, an ALA Youth Media Award Picture Book Winner, will share how she navigates that path, avoiding potential quicksand, dodging poison arrows, and growing a backbone in addition. She hopes that what she learned will be of use to you as you go on your own epic publishing journey.
