I’m a Chi­nese-Cana­di­an-Amer­i­can who was watch­ing mar­tial arts fan­tasies and spec­u­la­tive-fic­tion TV shows and movies as soon as I was old enough to under­stand them. You could say I nursed on mag­ic and imag­i­na­tion, but these shows and movies also ger­mi­nat­ed my love for science.

At the Uni­ver­si­ty of British Colum­bia, where I met my spouse, I took numer­ous sci­ence and math class­es, study­ing linguistics/speech sci­ence and climatology.
