Man­ag­ing Your Pub­lish­ing Career for the Long Term

Unless your plan is “one and done,” most writ­ers are think­ing of writ­ing as a long-term career. But the pub­lish­ing path is windy, bumpy, full of pot­holes and there is no defin­i­tive GPS or map to guide you. Nav­i­gat­ing it is some­times like dri­ving on a fog­gy moun­tain road at night with your head­lights out. The best that you can do is look at how oth­ers before you have made the jour­ney and use that as a guide. Tere­sa Robe­son, an ALA Youth Media Award Pic­ture Book Win­ner, will share how she nav­i­gates that path, avoid­ing poten­tial quick­sand, dodg­ing poi­son arrows, and grow­ing a back­bone in addi­tion. She hopes that what she learned will be of use to you as you go on your own epic pub­lish­ing journey.
